Facts about Santiago Chile

Santiago, the capital and the largest city of Chile is situated in the central valley of the country. Santiago is located at about 1700 feet elevation from main sea level (MSL). Owing to the steady economic growth of Chile, Santiago has turned into one of the most modern and developed cities in Latin America. With its ultra-modern transport infrastructure, steadily growing underground metro network, a large fleet of modern public bus transport and free flowing ring roads, Santiago has been put into the list of Alpha World City.

Santiago is the regional headquarters for many multi-national corporations and its is also one of the largest financial centers in South America. Starting from the last few decades of twentieth century, Santiago has flourished and it continues to grow rapidly making it one of the fastest developing centers in the Latin America. Despite an earthquake of 8.8 magnitude in southern Chile in February 2010, which caused massive destruction across many regions of Chile, not much damage was recorded in Santiago due to good quality construction and buildings.
