Chile, Officially known as republic of Chile, is a country in South America, located between the Andes Mountains and the Pacific Ocean. Here are some interesting facts about Chile. Chile is the world’s 38th largest country. It is about twice the size of Japan. There are an estimated 840,000 Chileans living abroad. More than half of these live in Argentina. It is believed that Native Americans settled in Chile about 12,000 years ago. Catholicism is the main religion the Chile.

The focal language spoken in Chile is Spanish, but there are also so many indigenous languages spoken by a minority of Chileans. Chile has an unusual ribbon shape that is 4300 km long and average 175 km wide. Population density of this country is 22 person per sq km. One of the most interesting fact about Chile is: It had to undergone 17 years of military dictatorship between 1973 to1990 that left more than 3000 people either dead or missing. Forests, grazing land, active and dead volcanoes and lakes are all features of southern Chile. The most popular sport in Chile is football. The Chilean football team won a bronze medal at the 2000 Sydney Olympics. Michelle Bachelet Jeria was the first woman president ever in Chile who was elected in January 2006. Despite the severe earthquake of magnitude 8.8 that hit Chile on 27th February 2010, the country managed to overcome it and back to normalcy.
