Government in Chile is a Unitary Presidential Republic headed by President Sebastian Pinera. Chile got its independence from Spain in 1818 and it was recognized in 1844. Current constitution of Chile was approved in a national plebiscite in 1980 under the them Military Government of Augusto Pinochet. Thereafter, the constitution of Chile has been amended several times and several laws and reforms have taken place during the last three decades. All five presidential elections after the end of Pinochet era have been declared fair and free.





The presidential term is for four years and the presidents are constitutionally barred from serving for two consecutive terms in the Office of President. Congress of Chile has 38-seat Senate and 120-members Chamber of Deputies. Senators serve for eight years with staggered terms and Deputies are elected for four years. Judiciary in Chile is different and independent from the government and it includes courts of appeals, system of military courts, constitutional tribunal and Supreme Court of Chile. For administration, Chile is divided into 15 regions, each headed by Intendant (Head of the Public Office) who is appointed by the President.

Bernardo O'Higgins was a Chilean freedom fighter and independence leader who fought for freeing Chile from Spanish rulers in the Chilean War of Independence. In the honor of Bernardo O'Higgins, the founding father of Chile, there is a region named as O'Higgins, which is an administrative division in Chile. O'Higgins is bordered by Pacific Ocean in the west, Republic of Argentina in the east, Santiago Metropolitan regions in the north and Maule Region in the south. Valle Nevado is a popular South American Ski Resort that is located about 45 km east of Santiago, the capital city of Chile. Founded in 1988 by French Businessmen, Valle Nevado is developed on the models of famous European Alps Ski Resorts. With its 800 hectares of skiable area, large terrains, modern features and constant upgrades in the facilities, Valle Nevado is one of the best ski resorts in the South America. It also hosted 2005 World Snowboarding Championship.




The base of the Valle Nevado ski resort is situated at an altitude of about 3000 meters and its highest elevation is about 3800 meters. Valle Nevado ski resort offers more than 100 trails, 1 terrain park and different categories for trails for the beginners, intermediate, advance and expert skiers. There are total eight lifts including one high speed detachable squad, one fixed grip squad, one double chair and four surface lifts at the Valle Nevado resort. Starting from late June and ending with October end is the peak ski season at Valle Nevado Ski Resort.
