Facts About Chile Music in Chile

Chile is renowned for its music and musical culture including its folk music, old classical music and modern pop music. The traditional folklore music in Chile three distinct geographical flavors norther, southern and central each having its specialized sounds and characteristics. Besides the Central Folk Music, Chile is well known for Easter Island Music and Mapuche Music. Northern Chile was always the main center of culture and music of Inca Empire that was subsequently influenced greatly after the arrivals of Spanish.





Cueca, that first appeared in 1824, is considered as the most popular air of Chile. A popular form of Chilean traditional song is known as Tonada, which was created from the music brought by the Spanish settlers. Some of the well-known classic Chilean composers include the names Alfonso Leng, Pedro Humberto Allende, and Domingo Santa Cruz, to name but few. Chile is the bithplace of Claudio Arrau, one of the greatest pianists of the 20th century, and Rosita Renard, and Alfredo Pearl, two more renowned pianists. Famous Singers of the likes Ramon Vinay, Cristina Gallardo-Domas, Victoria Vergara and Veronica Villarroel also belong to Chile.
