Facts About Chile O Higgins Chile

Bernardo O'Higgins was a Chilean freedom fighter and independence leader who fought for freeing Chile from Spanish rulers in the Chilean War of Independence. In the honor of Bernardo O'Higgins, the founding father of Chile, there is a region named as O'Higgins, which is an administrative division in Chile. O'Higgins is bordered by Pacific Ocean in the west, Republic of Argentina in the east, Santiago Metropolitan regions in the north and Maule Region in the south. Spread over 16,000 square km area, O'Higgins has a population of 780,000 residents.




Majority of the O'Higgins region has rural population and the major economy is from the exports and mining industry, which take place at EL Teniente Mine of Codelco and accounts for 7.7% of Chile's copper production. The next major economy is from the agricultural that accounts for 30% of GDP of the region. O'Higgins region is also famous for Chilean Vineyards and Wineries and beer breweries.Some of the cities in O'Higgins region include Santa Cruz, Rancagua, Palmilla, San Fernando, Rengo, Codegua, Las Cabras, Nancagua and Lo Miranda, among others.
