World's one of the largest and most deserted deserts known as Atacama is located in the northern Chile. Southernmost city on a continent and southernmost village in the world are situated in Chile. Lake Chungara is a lake in Chile, which is one of the highest lakes in the world. Andes mountain in Chile has some of the most active volcanoes in the world. The currency of Chile is Chilean Peso, which is further divided into 100 Centavos.


Political system of Chile has a President who is the Chief of State as well as the Head of Government and the President is elected by popular vote for a single term of four years. The Government of Chile is Republican Type of Government with 13 administrative regions. Besides copper, Chile is rich in several minerals including iron ore, timber, nitrates and precious metals. The common agricultural produce include wheat, corn, beans, grapes, fish and beef, salmon being the top commodity of exports.

Chile is best known for farming of salmon and is the one of the top exporters of Salmon.



Although the national game of Chile is Soccer and it is also believed universally that soccer is the most popular sports in Chile but actually, the tennis is the most popular sport in Chile. In the southern regions of Chile, there are about 1500 volcanoes, some of which are still active. Majority of the population of Chile lives in the capital and the largest city Santiago. La Serena is one the fastest growing cities in Chile, with a growth rate of as high as 30% during the past two decades.

Santiago, the capital and the largest city of Chile is situated in the central valley of the country. Santiago is located at about 1700 feet elevation from main sea level (MSL). Owing to the steady economic growth of Chile, Santiago has turned into one of the most modern and developed cities in Latin America. With its ultra-modern transport infrastructure, steadily growing underground metro network, a large fleet of modern public bus transport and free flowing ring roads, Santiago has been put into the list of Alpha World City.



Santiago is the regional headquarters for many multi-national corporations and its is also one of the largest financial centers in South America. Starting from the last few decades of twentieth century, Santiago has flourished and it continues to grow rapidly making it one of the fastest developing centers in the Latin America. Despite an earthquake of 8.8 magnitude in southern Chile in February 2010, which caused massive destruction across many regions of Chile, not much damage was recorded in Santiago due to good quality construction and buildings.

Chile or the Republic of Chile is a country in South America, which occupies a long and narrow coastal strip between the Andes mountain and the Pacific Ocean. Climate of Chile varies ranging from world's driest desert climate in the north, a Mediterranean climate in the center and a rainy temperate climate in the south. Northern desert of Chile is rich in mineral wealth, principally copper. Southern Chile is rich in forests, agriculture and grazing land and it also has a large number of volcanoes and lakes.
